I first noticed the beginning of the transition to menopause when I was about 47 years old – my period became really heavy and went on for around 8 days (usually 3-4), then 2 weeks later I got my period again! Another 2 weeks and guess what it came again and was even heavier! WTF? In the end I think I had about 6 periods in 3months – no wonder I was exhausted!
I was taking all my supplements to boost my iron and herbal medicine to give me energy and help iron absorption, but even I (the naturopath) was considering going to the doctor to find out what I could do, but then abruptly that all ended and I went back to my “normal’ cycle – 30 days with light periods of 3-4 days. Then the hot flushes began…
My journey into perimenopause had definitely begun. It took about another 4 years for various “symptoms” to come and go, and finally I reached my 12 months without a period in 2021.
Some of my clients had also started noticing their own perimenopause symptoms and I really began noticing the emotional and spiritual upheaval at this time. Although I had learnt a lot about the physical side of things during my naturopath degree and in professional updates later, I had not really heard about the mental side of this phase of life. This is what started my journey into The Pause Effect.
I found out all I could about a woman’s journey through life. I researched other cultures, I took a number of different courses and studied under psychotherapists to find out how and why our minds also go through a complete turnaround at this time of life. I uncovered my deepest fears and identified what I needed to do to move beyond them. And I found professional support that helped me remove a whole heap of baggage I was carrying around.
I also studied further to increase my existing naturopathic knowledge to understand the best natural medicines for all the different stages on conditions women go through at mid-life.
Now I want to share that with the world. I want every woman to know that Menopause is not something to fear, be ashamed of or dread. It is an amazing transformative process. If approached with the right tools, it can lead you on the path to a more fulfilling and stress-free second half of life, because lets face it – most of us have another 30-40 years left in us. Who wants to live those years wishing you were in someone else’s body?
I’m not saying I’m perfect, but that’s fine I love the perfectly flawed person I am today and want all my friends, clients and every woman I meet to know this is achievable.
