Here’s one way to start the day with a healthy boost… It’s a Smoothie with a kick of immune boosting anti-oxidants:
If you want to get your year off to a really good kick-start then I also recommend you also do a mini detox to help you cleanse and clear some of the toxins you may have absorbed over the past weeks of festivities. You can book in for a consultation with me and together we can create a plan that is just right for you. I will ensure you are taking in the right amount of food and supplements to be getting enough vitamin B and Zinc for energy and immune function, as well as whatever else it is you specifically need.
Until then, try out this recipe for a quick and easy meal. It is a well rounded breakfast (or other meal option) as it has all the food groups: protein, fats & carbohydrates.
Ingredients
- One banana
- A handful of berries – I use blueberries as they have the highest anti-oxidant levels (and they are in season, so super cheap at the moment)
- A handful of spinach leaves (optional)
- Tablespoon each of
- Sunflower seeds
- Pepitas (pumpkin seeds)
- Nuts (raw almonds/cashews/other nuts)
- Hemp seeds
- Two tablespoons of full fat yoghurt (for a non-dairy option use coconut yoghurt)
- I cup of full-fat milk of your choice – dairy, soy, almond, oat, etc.
- Juice & zest of half a lemon (or any other citrus you have available)
- Ice – optional
Method
Place everything in a blender and blast on high for 60 seconds.
NOTE: This comes out a dark merky colour if you use blueberries AND spinach because the combination of purple and green creates black! Don’t worry – it still tastes great.
OPTIONS: You can change up the fruits you use for different times of the year. Another great summer fruit is mangoes – which is one of my favourite smoothies.
