The day where we have equal light and equal darkness in a 24 hour period. Even though we officially marked Autumn as 1st March, the equinox is the actual transition into autumn in the Southern Hemisphere (In the Northern Hemisphere the Spring Equinox is at this same time). From here on our days will be shorter than our nights in terms of hours of daylight vs darkness.
According to AstrotourismWA:
“The equinox marks several astronomical phenomena too! During the equinox, the Sun will rise directly in the east and set due west. The Sun will also appear exactly halfway between it’s northern most and southern most location in the sky. The exact time of the equinox occurs when the sun is directly above the Earth’s equator…”

In Brisbane this occurs at 1:32am on Monday 21st March.
Traditionally, Autumn equinox was a time of year when people celebrated the abundance of the summer harvest and started to plan for the coming winter. There was a reckoning where people living off the land decided what practices, crops and stock were valued: needed to be preserved (for winter and times of scarcity) and what could be discarded. It is a time to gain perspective and balance: of weighing up what is useful and what would take more energy than it was worth to keep up.
Today the significance of this can go unnoticed in our busy, modern-day world however there are benefits to taking the time out to officially mark this occasion. We can acknowledge the equinox in a more symbolic way.
Equinox is a time to look at balance in our lives – a time to take stock of what we have and do. It could be that we decide to go the extra mile to complete something that is almost done or decide to stop pursuing something that is no longer beneficial. No matter where you are in your life there is always value in taking time to stop and evaluate what is and isn’t serving you in your life.
The March equinox also helps determine the date for Easter. Some people also believe Easter is a Pagan tradition based on the Goddess of Spring and Fertility, which makes more sense in the Norther n hemisphere.
This year I have put together a list of questions to contemplate my plans leading into the next 3 months and beyond. These questions are based upon the astrological happenings in our skies, as well as our current feelings here on the ground. This is such a good time to do this – at an equinox – when we are encouraged to look at our lives and find balance in all areas.
Having done some preparation and mental clearing, I have made some plans to create balance in my lift by taking on a slightly new direction in my work. I will still be work in in women’s health and menopause, but will be adding an additional area working with nature and associated energies. This is an area I have been increasingly called to work in, and I can no longer ignore the call!
If you would like access to my resources and for me to send you a free kit for Equinox planning (you still have time – the equinox energy doesn’t expire on 21st March!), get in touch (by clicking on the “contact us” button below) and I will email it out.
Until then Happy Equinox!
