Energy & Sound Healing

How the ancient healing technique actually works

In recent years, the use of energy healing has gained traction among the alternative healthcare industry. However, it is not just a New Age treatment, sound healing is a traditional practice that has been used for centuries to promote physical and emotional health.

Energy healing, is a holistic approach to promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing and can be used alongside other conventional medical treatments. The most commonly known method is called Reiki healing. This healing modality works by addressing imbalances in the flow of energy within and surrounding the body. This type of therapy is based on the understanding that the human body is composed of energy fields or meridians, which can be manipulated to restore balance and harmony. The 7 major energy systems are re calibrated and brought back into alignment with the body’s vital force (also known as qi, chi or prana)

Sound healing, on the other hand, works on a vibrational level where the body’s cells which are largely made up of water are brought back into alignment with the sound which penetrates the cells. The healing sounds are created using Himalayan singing bowls, gongs, drums, chimes and other percussion instruments. One of the most striking sounds are those created by crystal bowls: made of pure crystal quartz, a mineral that emits a powerful and harmonious sound when struck or rubbed. The sound produced is believed to resonate with the body’s energy centres promoting a sense of relaxation, balance, and healing.

For energy and sound healing, one of the main benefits is stress reduction. The gentle and soothing vibrations produced by the bowls can help slow down the heart rate, lower blood pressure, and reduce levels of stress hormones such as cortisol. Studies have also shown that sound and energy healing can improve sleep quality, boost immune function, and alleviate pain and anxiety.

Energy healing has also been found to have several benefits, including reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, as well as promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels. Studies have also shown that energy healing can improve overall physical function and help speed up the body’s natural healing process. Energy healing can also occur remotely as energy is not contained to time and space. The support for the use of sound and energy healing in mainstream medicine is gaining traction, particularly amongst progressive healthcare professionals and researchers. Studies that explore the effectiveness of these therapies as complementary or alternative treatments for various health conditions and come out overwhelmingly positive.

The Journal of Cancer found that distant energy healing had provided benefits to pain levels, anxiety and fatigue

Another Pain Management Journal, Nursing published a review of randomised controlled studies that used Reiki as a pain management group and found that Reiki therapy may be effective for pain and anxiety.

According to yet another study showed Reiki energy healing has also proven to increase overall feelings of well being and improve mood.

Overall, the use of energy and sound healing is a promising avenue for improving health and wellbeing. With further research, it is likely that these therapies will become more widely accepted and integrated into mainstream healthcare practices.
